The Role 

We are seeking an experienced Logistics Manager to join our Senior Management Team and lead our Logistics Department. In this pivotal role, you will oversee all aspects of procurement, stock management, and distribution, ensuring they meet our operational and quality standards. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining strong supplier relationships, managing inventory, and coordinating logistics operations to enhance service delivery throughout our charity.

Launched in 2007, Pet Blood Bank UK is the only charity that provides a blood bank service for all vets across the UK. As part of our charitable remit, our aim is to advance animal health and welfare and to relieve suffering by providing quick and convenient access to blood. What you’ll do 
  • Oversee all logistics operations including the 24/7 selection, picking, packing, and dispatch of products, and manage relationships with courier services to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships, negotiate cost-effective terms, and manage procurement processes to enhance supply chain efficiency.
  • Manage inventory of non-blood stock items, maintain appropriate stock levels, and oversee stock management software for accurate record-keeping.
  • Ensure the maintenance and operational readiness of all Pet Blood Bank vehicles and facilities, managing related insurance and compliance with operational standards.
  • Lead the Logistics Team, ensuring effective scheduling, task allocation, and ongoing training in collaboration with the Training Department.
  • Produce strategic logistics reports, collaborate across key departments to resolve operational challenges, and participate in the on-call rota for emergency and holiday coverage.
What we need 

This role requires a combination of strategic insight, operational excellence, and the ability to lead a diverse team in a dynamic environment. We’re looking for someone who is/has:

  • Extensive experience in logistics and supply chain management, particularly in the veterinary or related healthcare sectors, backed by a thorough understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in regulatory compliance and quality assurance processes, essential for maintaining high standards in logistics operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, with a strong capability to leverage technology for efficient logistics management.
  • Possesses a full UK Driving Licence and a proven track record of effectively handling complex logistical challenges in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, coupled with exceptional organisational and strategic planning abilities, tailored to lead a diverse logistics team and ensure seamless operational flow.

This role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, Mon – Fri and based onsite at our Loughborough office.
